現識含藏善惡種子無失，故名不壞。事識以根對境，起憎愛心，念念生滅，故名為壞。然此二識雖壞不壞有異，而展轉相因，非異非不異也。

The manifesting consciousness contains the wholesome and unwholesome seeds without loss, hence it is named indestructible. The objective consciousness, confronting objects with the faculties, gives rise to minds of hatred and love, arising and ceasing thought after thought, hence it is named destructible. Yet although these two consciousnesses differ in being destructible or indestructible, they are mutually causes for one another, being neither different nor non-different.
