"The three realms of existence" are the desire realm, form realm, and formless realm. Speaking of "existence" means birth and death do not cease. "Suffering" is the suffering of birth and death. "Ignorance" is lack of knowledge, "craving" is the affliction of desire, and "conditions of karma" are conditions of good and evil karma. These conditions of karma and afflictions of birth and death are the three paths of suffering, delusion, and karma, all of which are illusory realms appearing from one's own mind. If one can understand that they are like an illusion, then the various realms will naturally cease. As the *Ru lengqie* states: "If one understands that realms are like an illusion and are appearances of one's own mind, then one extinguishes the suffering of the three realms of existence of false imagination, as well as ignorance, craving, and the conditions of karma."
