"Continuity" refers to the continuity of cause and effect. "Things" refers to objects and phenomena. "Arising" refers to the arising of aggregates, elements, and sense bases. "Existence" means that if the aforesaid dharmas truly existed, that would imply that the dharmas of nirvāṇa and the four truths are entirely non-existent, thus constituting their doctrines of destruction and annihilation. Furthermore, nirvāṇa and the path are supramundane dharmas, while conditions of karma and the fruits of suffering are mundane dharmas. What are referred to here as the four truths are the dharma gates of the real and conventional taught by the Buddha. They regard them as non-existent and form annihilationist doctrines. Therefore, [the sūtra] further investigates and explains the meaning: because regarding these four truths present before them, they consider them all to be genuinely non-existent; and at the place where the view of self first arises, they conceptualize existence and nonexistence, all of which are wrong views, not belonging to the portion of the correct cause of liberation.
