"Indeterminate lineage" means that when hearing the three dharmas of the Śrāvaka, Pratyekabuddha, and Tathāgata expounded, they give rise to faith and understanding accordingly and practice and study in conformity, progressing from the small to the great; because their disposition can be shifted, it is called "indeterminate." "Stage of initial purification" refers to persons on the stage of dry wisdom; the indeterminate lineage is expounded for them to cause them to transcend and enter the stage of nothingness, which is the seventh stage, the stage of completion. "Established in this way" means taught in this way. As for "that personal awakening treasury," and so forth, the *Ru Lengqie* says: "Those Śrāvakas dwelling in the bliss of samādhi, if they can realize and know the consciousness upon which they rely, see the selflessness of dharmas, and purify their habitual tendencies of affliction, shall ultimately attain the body of the Tathāgata." The consciousness upon which one relies is the personal awakening treasury, the eighth consciousness. The habitual tendencies of affliction are avidyā.
