「大慧！妄想自性從相生。」大慧白佛言：「世尊！云何妄想自性從相生？」佛告大慧：「緣起自性事相相行，顯現事相相，計著有二種妄想自性，如來、應供、等正覺之所建立，謂名相計著相及事相計著相。名相計著相者，謂內外法計著；事相計著相者，謂即彼如是內外自共相計著。是名二種妄想自性相。若依若緣生，是名緣起。」

"Mahāmati, parikalpita-svabhāva arises from characteristics." Mahāmati addressed the Buddha, saying: "World-Honoured One, how does parikalpita-svabhāva arise from characteristics?" The Buddha told Mahāmati: "In paratantra-svabhāva, activity in accordance with the characteristics of concrete phenomena manifests the characteristics of concrete phenomena, and grasping occurs in two kinds of parikalpita-svabhāva established by the Tathāgatas, Arhats, and Samyaksambuddhas, namely, the characteristic of grasping at names and characteristics, and the characteristic of grasping at concrete phenomena. The characteristic of grasping at names and characteristics refers to grasping at internal and external dharmas; the characteristic of grasping at concrete phenomena refers to grasping at those very internal and external svalakṣaṇas and sāmānyalakṣaṇas. These are called the characteristics of the two kinds of parikalpita-svabhāva. That which arises depending [on causes] and conditioned [by conditions] is called paratantra."
