This answers the question on non-arising. 'Not arising from itself' is stated fully in the verse from the *Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa*: 'Dharmas do not arise from themselves, / Nor do they arise from others, / Nor from both, nor without a cause; / Therefore they are said to be unarisen.' 'Not non-arising' means it is not exclusively unarisen; speaking from principle, that which is unarisen leaves nothing unarisen. Yongjia also says: 'If it is truly unarisen, there is nothing unarisen.' 'Except for abiding in samādhi' means that except when ascending to the first bhūmi or first abhiṣeka-abode, destroying ignorance and revealing the Dharma-nature, this is true non-arising.
