2.105

涅槃有三：謂外道妄計涅槃、二乘取證涅槃、如來究竟涅槃。此三涅槃名雖同而實大異，苟不以法而正其名，則如來藏與凡小混，不可不辯，故此致問。

There are three kinds of nirvāṇa: the nirvāṇa falsely posited by tīrthikas, the nirvāṇa realized by the two vehicles, and the Tathāgata's ultimate nirvāṇa. Although the names of these three nirvāṇas are the same, their realities are vastly different. If one does not rectify their names through the Dharma, the tathāgatagarbha would be confounded with the ordinary and the lesser; this cannot go undistinguished, hence this question is asked.
