縛不縛因緣計著者，以理言之，法本自離，何縛之有？情著成縛，不可云無。如士夫者，《入楞伽》云：「如人以繩方便力故，縛已復解，此於無縛解中而生計著也。」

As for "grasping at the causes and conditions of bondage and non-bondage": speaking from principle, dharmas are fundamentally naturally free; what bondage could there be? Yet emotional clinging creates bondage, which cannot be said not to exist. As for "like a man", the Ru Lengqie [jing] says: "Just as a person, by the power of expedients using rope, binds and then again unbinds; this is giving rise to grasping where there is no bondage or liberation."
