3.18

貪愛母、無明父，即十二因緣中現在之愛，更從受生，與未來貪喜俱，皆有生義，如母養育，立即生也。由無明貪愛，生六入、十二處等聚落。若斷此貪愛無明根本，即害父母義也。

Craving is the mother and ignorance is the father: that is, the present craving within the twelve links of dependent origination receives rebirth anew, accompanied by future greed and delight, both of which have the meaning of giving birth; like a mother raising and nurturing, being established means being born. Due to ignorance and craving, the hamlets of the six sense faculties and twelve sense fields are produced. If one severs these roots of craving and ignorance, this is the meaning of 'slaying parents.'
