"Furthermore, Mahāmati, at that time the Lokāyata brāhmaṇa again questioned me, saying: 'Is the existence of the three realms caused by the karma of delusion and craving, or is it uncaused?' I then replied to him, saying: 'Both of these are also mere worldly philosophies (lokāyata).' He questioned me again, saying: 'Do all entities enter into individual and universal characteristics?' I replied again, saying: 'This too is worldly philosophy. Brāhmaṇa, up to the mind flowing and falsely conceptualizing external dust, all is worldly philosophy.' Furthermore, Mahāmati, at that time the Lokāyata brāhmaṇa again questioned me, saying: 'Is there anything that is not worldly philosophy? I am the master of all tīrthika doctrines, expounding various phrases and expressions with causes, conditions, and metaphorical adornments.' I replied again, saying: 'Brāhmaṇa, there is, but it is not what you possess. It is neither a non-doctrine nor does it speak or not speak various phrases and expressions; nor is it not adorned with causal metaphors.' The brāhmaṇa said: 'What is that which is not worldly philosophy, neither a non-doctrine, nor neither speaking [nor not speaking]?' I then replied, saying: 'Brāhmaṇa, there is that which is not worldly philosophy, which you tīrthikas cannot know. Because of false conceptualization, untruth, and grasping at external entities, [you do not know it]. It means that false conceptualization does not arise, one comprehends existence and nonexistence as cittadṛśyamātra, false conceptualization does not arise, one does not accept external dust, and false conceptualization ceases forever—this is named what is not worldly philosophy. This is my Dharma, not what you possess. Brāhmaṇa, to explain that consciousness briefly: whether coming or going, whether dying or being born, whether pleasure or pain, whether sinking or seeing, whether touching or adhering to various characteristics, whether compounding and continuing, whether craving, whether grasping at causes—Brāhmaṇa, such things as these are the worldly philosophy of you and your kind, not what I possess.' Mahāmati, when the Lokāyata brāhmaṇa made such inquiries and I answered in such a way, he remained silent, withdrew without taking leave, and thinking over his own mastery, had this thought: 'The Śramaṇa Gautama transcends what is within my mastery; he speaks of non-arising, signlessness, and causelessness, and having awakened to the manifested signs of one's own false conceptualizations, false conceptualization does not arise.'"
