「或有覺知內外諸法自相、共相，去、來、現在有性不壞，作涅槃想。或謂我、人、眾生、壽命一切法壞，作涅槃想。或以外道惡燒智慧，見自性及士夫，彼二有間，土夫所出名為自性，如冥初比，求那轉變，求那是作者，作涅槃想。或謂福非福盡、或謂諸煩惱盡、或謂智慧、或見自在是真實作死生者，作涅槃想。」

"Or some perceive and know that the svalakṣaṇa and sāmānyalakṣaṇa of internal and external dharmas have an indestructible existence in the past, future, and present, and conceive the notion of nirvāṇa. Or some say that when all dharmas of self, person, sentient being, and life span are destroyed, this is the notion of nirvāṇa. Or, with their wisdom evilly burned by tīrthikas, some see the svabhāva (prakṛti) and the puruṣa, and that there is an interval between the two—that what arises from the puruṣa is called svabhāva, like the comparison of the primal darkness—and that the guṇas transform and the guṇas are the agents, and they conceive the notion of nirvāṇa. Or some say the exhaustion of merit and demerit, or some say the exhaustion of all afflictions, or some say wisdom, or some see Īśvara as the real creator of birth and death, and conceive the notion of nirvāṇa.
