3.60

爾時，大慧菩薩復白佛言：「世尊！惟願為我及諸菩薩說宗通相。若善分別宗通相者，我及諸菩薩通達是相。通達是相已，速成阿耨多羅三藐三菩提，不隨覺想及眾魔外道。」佛告大慧：「諦聽！諦聽！善思念之，當為汝說。」大慧白佛言：「唯然受教。」佛告大慧：「一切聲聞、緣覺、菩薩有二種通相，謂宗通及說通。」

At that time, the Bodhisattva Mahāmati again addressed the Buddha, saying: "World-Honoured One, I pray only that you explain for me and the bodhisattvas the characteristic of penetration of the doctrine. If one can skillfully distinguish the characteristic of penetration of the doctrine, I and the bodhisattvas will penetrate this characteristic. Having penetrated this characteristic, we will swiftly achieve anuttarā samyaksambodhi, not following discursive thought or the host of Māras and tīrthikas." The Buddha told Mahāmati, "Listen attentively! Listen attentively, and reflect on it well; I will explain it for you." Mahāmati addressed the Buddha, saying, "I reverently accept the teaching." The Buddha told Mahāmati, "All śrāvakas, pratyekabuddhas, and bodhisattvas have two kinds of characteristics of penetration: namely, penetration of the doctrine and penetration of the teaching."
