The Tathāgata observes all conditioned dharmas of the world with the eye of right knowledge (samyagjñāna); all are illusory arisings and ceasings, yet beings falsely presume them to be real, increasing the two views of existence and nonexistence, while the ordinary and foolish are perverted and devoid of knowledge or perception. Aside from the single marvelous mind of tathatā and nirvāṇa, all the rest is empty and false; hence the metaphor: ‘like an illusion, a dream, a plantain tree.’ ‘Being without fault’ means understanding that the nature of fault is fundamentally empty, which is itself nirvāṇa.
