This answers the sixth question. It is not that the ultimate beginning cannot be established; it is only because sentient beings have not been able to step outside their own vikalpa that they have some ignorance regarding the ultimate beginning. Going to the extreme of their vikalpa, it does not go beyond the two views of annihilation and permanence; therefore it says: 'Fools, based on the cessation of the collection of seven consciousnesses' and so forth. According to what they know, at the extreme they have no knowledge beyond the seven consciousnesses, and consequently give rise to the view of annihilation. Not perceiving that the storehouse consciousness is inexhaustible, and seeing its moment-to-moment continuity, they give rise to the view of permanence. Because they are within their own vikalpa and do not reach outside it, they cannot know it; they must wait until vikalpa is transformed and extinguished, which is then liberation. 'Extinguishment through wisdom' indicates that falsehood does not extinguish by itself; it must be extinguished through wisdom.
