"Nature-and-non-nature" means that the natures of the four great elements are all devoid of intrinsic nature, and both the characteristics capable of creating and those created revert to change and destruction; hence it is called impermanence. "The intrinsic nature of the four great elements" and below refutes their reckoning, meaning that the intrinsic nature of the great elements fundamentally does not arise; since non-arising itself does not exist, what origination could cease so as to speak of impermanence?
