"Furthermore, Mahāmati, there are two kinds of general distinguishing characteristics of the Śrāvakayāna: namely, the distinctive characteristics of attaining pratyātmāryajñāna, and the characteristics of grasping at the svabhāva of imagined natures. What is the śrāvaka who attains the distinctive characteristics of pratyātmāryajñāna? It refers to knowing as it truly is the realms of impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and non-self, the truth of reality, the detachment from desire, tranquility and extinction, the quieting of the svalakṣaṇa and sāmānyalakṣaṇa of the skandhas, dhātus, and āyatanas, and the non-destruction of external characteristics, so that the mind attains tranquil cessation. After the mind has attained tranquil cessation, they attain liberation in the correct absorption of dhyāna-meditation, liberation, samādhi, and the fruits of the path; yet, not being free from vāsanās and the inconceivable death of transformation, they are śrāvakas who dwell in the bliss of attaining pratyātmāryajñāna. This is called the śrāvaka who attains the distinctive characteristics of pratyātmāryajñāna."
