"Furthermore, Mahāmati, the bodhisattva-mahāsattva should be skilled in the four great elements and the forms derived from them. How is a bodhisattva skilled in the four great elements and the forms derived from them? Mahāmati, the bodhisattva-mahāsattva generates this discernment: in that absolute truth, the four great elements do not arise; he makes such an observation regarding those four great elements not arising. Having observed them, he discerns the bounds of names, lakṣaṇas, and vikalpa, the bounds of what appears from one's own mind, and that external svabhāva is non-nature: this is called the bounds of vikalpa appearing from mind. That is to say, regarding the three realms, he observes the nature of the forms derived from those four great elements as being free from the catuṣkoṭi and completely pure, free from 'I' and 'mine', dwelling in distinct divisions in accordance with true lakṣaṇa and svalakṣaṇa, and that non-arising svalakṣaṇa is established."
