3.11

First, one enters the emptiness of nirvāṇa from the provisionality of birth and death; next, one enters provisional establishment from the emptiness of nirvāṇa; these are still the two extremes. Now one enters the Middle Way. What is called "awakening to all Buddha-dharmas," and so on, means that from the eighth stage onward, the bodhisattva is received into the stage of dedication, thoroughly penetrating that the marks of the dharmas personally realized by the Buddhas are none other than one's own mind, and hence it is called "the characteristics of self-attained bliss." Regarding "born together with its kind," the Fuxing says: "Penetrating the dharmas realized by the Buddha, one immediately enters the Middle Way, belonging to the Buddha's kind." Some say it means "a thousand kinds and ten thousand categories," which is incorrect. Since one has personally entered the middle, the faculties of those transformed also become of the Buddha's kind; hence it says "born together." Reaching this position, wisdom is transformed and practice is blended; this is called "free from purposive action." Before entering the path of realization, it is merely called "mind-made"; this is the characteristic of the third mind-made [body]. The characteristics of these three kinds of bodies are explained distinctively according to stages. In the second fascicle it states: "Just like the mind moves swiftly." That explanation according to the two meanings of place and vow was a general explanation. The admonition to train in and study them is clear from the text.
