"Mahāmati! Śakra Devendra was broadly learned in many treatises and personally composed treatises on sound. A disciple of that lokāyata adherent took the form of a dragon and went to the palace of Śakra's heaven, establishing a doctrinal thesis with the pledge that he would destroy Śakra's thousand-spoked wheel: 'If I am surpassed, let each of my heads be cut off to make amends for having yielded.' Having made this pact, he immediately used Śakra's own methods to defeat and subjugate Śakra. When Śakra fell into defeat, he destroyed Śakra's chariot and returned to the world of humans. In this way, Mahāmati, with the embellishment of worldly discourse through reasons and metaphors, even animals can bewilder those gods and asuras through various phrases and clauses and cause them to cling to the view of arising and perishing—how much more so human beings? Therefore, Mahāmati, one must stay far away from worldly discourse; because it is capable of bringing about the causes for the arising of suffering, be cautious never to practice or draw near to it!"
