At that time, the Bodhisattva Mahāmati again requested: "World-Honoured One, I pray only that you explain for us the characteristics of the existence and nonexistence of all dharmas, so that I and the other bodhisattva-mahāsattvas may leave behind the characteristics of existence and nonexistence, and quickly attain anuttarā samyaksambodhi." The Buddha told Mahāmati, "Listen attentively! Listen attentively, and reflect on it well; I will explain it for you." Mahāmati addressed the Buddha, saying, "Excellent, World-Honoured One! I reverently accept the teaching." The Buddha told Mahāmati, "This world relies on two kinds [of views]: namely, relying on existence and nonexistence, falling into entity and non-entity, desiring views, and not leaving behind the characteristic of leaving behind."
