From here on there are forty-eight and a half verses, asking about the views of the hundred and eight statements. As for the hundred and eight kinds of views: sometimes one line is one question, sometimes two lines are one question, sometimes three lines are one question, up to ten lines being one question, or one line being two questions; there are differences in length and brevity, so they cannot be matched one-to-one to the count. However, these hundred and eight gates specifically inquire into the above five dharmas, three svabhāvas, eight consciousnesses, and two kinds of selflessness, which are the remedial teachings for delivering sentient beings. Therefore, Mahāmati brings up what he saw above when travelling through the Buddha-lands with the bodhisattva Mahā[mati]; hence below he asks about mountains, oceans, sun, moon, and so forth, which are the nāmalakṣaṇa and parikalpa among the five dharmas. Below he asks about the dhyānas, liberations, and so forth, which are the samyag-jñāna and tathatā among the five dharmas.
