This is the fulfillment of the assembly. Contemplation entering emptiness from the conventional exclusively shatters birth and death, so the śrāvakas are listed first. Contemplation entering the conventional from emptiness exclusively shatters nirvāṇa, so the bodhisattvas are listed second. Once the two extremes are relinquished, the Middle Way appears before one. "Great monks" are so called because they possess five meanings: first, frightening māras; second, mendicants; third, breaking evil; fourth, pure livelihood; fifth, monks in name. "Great bodhisattvas": the full form is bodhisattva. Bodhi is here rendered "awakening," which is the fruit of Buddhahood sought. Sattva is here rendered "sentient being," which is the sentient beings transformed. It is also said to mean a sentient being who seeks bodhi. "Together" means at one time and in one place. These are called the six fulfillments being perfectly accomplished, and the three doubts immediately ceasing.
