From here to the end of the chapter specifically explains the preface of origin. "World-Honoured One" means possessing the nine titles above, such as Tathāgata, and being honored by the world. Brahmā refers to the Brahmā Kings of the form realm. Śakra is Lord Śakra, ruler of the desire realm. World-protectors refers to the Four Heavenly Kings. "The devas, nāgas, and so forth" are the eight classes of devas and nāgas. "Tathāgata" is the meaning of the thusness of all phenomena. "Arhat, Samyaksambuddha": "correctly awakened" means one's own mind's wisdom that accords with principle, wonderfully contemplating the absolute truth; "equally awakened" means one's own mind's wisdom that accords with quantity, universally contemplating the conventional truth. This means that all Buddhas and patriarchs, solely with their own single mind-moment, illuminate the absolute and penetrate the conventional, achieving unexcelled awakening; hence it says "the Tathāgatas, Arhats, and Samyaksambuddhas of the past." The remaining meanings can be understood from the text.
