At that time King Rāvaṇa, having previously praised and invited the Buddha with instrumental music, here again spoke verses in song to invite the Buddha, expressing that the sentient and insentient are alike. Calling his own name before the Buddha, saying "I am the rākṣasa king, ten-headed Rāvaṇa," indicates that the rākṣasa king represents the master of sentient beings' fundamental ignorance. The ten heads represent the sharp and dull ten entanglements; arising from ignorance, they are the heads of all dust-like afflictions. "May the Buddha embrace me and all sentient beings; my palaces, court ladies, down to personal service, we only pray that in your compassion you accept them," and so forth, are clear from the sūtra itself. The general meaning expresses that one can realize that the real nature of ignorance is itself the Buddha-nature. All internal and external dust-like toils and afflictions naturally accord with correct, universal awakening; hence it says "personal service and acceptance." As for "with the toṭaka tune and the viśālana," no authoritative translation has been found. Mahāyāna is here rendered "Great Vehicle."
