1.68

言大慧知菩薩眾會之心，及觀未來一切眾生迷惑執取，為斷彼疑，而問於佛。佛嘆善哉！為利自他，能起是問。謂夜叉王，曾問過去諸佛是二種義，今亦欲問，未來亦爾。二乘外道，所不能測。既已曾問，今復欲問，未來亦爾。於是二義，果誠不知耶？

This means that Mahāmati, knowing the thoughts of the assembly of bodhisattvas and observing that all future sentient beings would be deluded and grasp, questioned the Buddha in order to cut off their doubts. The Buddha praised him, saying, "Excellent!" for being able to raise this question for the benefit of self and others. He said that the yakṣa king had questioned the past buddhas about these two kinds of meanings, wished to ask now as well, and would do so in the future; they could not be fathomed by the two vehicles or non-Buddhists. Since he had already asked in the past, wished to ask again now, and would do so in the future, did he truly not know these two meanings?
