Language
Classical Chinese

2.28

The first line asks about siddhānta, which translates here as established tenets. The second line asks about the various views of conventional truth. Furthermore, the Tiantai school maintains four siddhāntas: first, the mundane; second, the therapeutic; third, the individual; and fourth, the ultimate truth. Hence it is said: "If one misses the intent of the four siddhāntas, both one's own practice and one's teaching of others are called clinging to dharmas; if one grasps the intent of the four siddhāntas, both self and other are free from clinging."
