Earlier, it was said that the Buddha is the opposite of the heterodox; here, it is the heterodox who are the opposite of the Buddha, never having been able to know the characteristics of the self-cause of the permanent and inconceivable—free from existence and non-existence and transcending cognitive sentiments—and constantly imputing it outside the characteristics practiced in the noble wisdom of self-realization. Therefore the Tathāgata admonishes that this should not be asserted. However, though the superiority and inferiority of the paths of the three vehicles differ, they are all realized inwardly. If one perceives dharmas outside the mind, however much one speaks of the profound and mysterious, one nevertheless becomes a heterodox.
