Because the above two obstructions can obstruct the noble path, preventing realization of the Tathāgata's two fruits of revolution of the basis—bodhi and nirvāṇa—ordinary practitioners of the path should cultivate dhyāna-concentration to give rise to uncontaminated, wondrous wisdom. Only then can they purify those two obstructions; hence, the four kinds of dhyāna are explained next. It is also said that among the six pāramitās, the single practice of dhyāna-concentration is the most wonderful and marvelous, able to produce uncontaminated wisdom within one's nature. Myriad practices and myriad virtues, up to spiritual powers and radiances, all arise from concentration. Therefore, students of the three vehicles seeking the noble path must cultivate dhyāna; hence the four kinds of dhyāna are explained throughout.
