This refers to attaining the real dharmakāya of the Tathāgata-bhūmi, which is personally realized noble wisdom, eternally abiding in quiescence, causing sentient beings to attain three kinds of joy, as well as attaining the inconceivable matters of the Tathāgata's wisdom-dharmakāya. The three kinds of joy are: the joy of dhyāna-concentration, the joy of bodhi, and the joy of nirvāṇa; this is called the Tathāgata-dhyāna. Moreover, former virtuous masters categorized five kinds of dhyāna in general based on the different bases of ordinary beings, non-Buddhists, the three vehicles, and the ekayāna: cultivating while clinging to erroneous views, delighting in what is above and reviling what is below, is non-Buddhist dhyāna; having correct faith in cause and effect, yet still cultivating out of delight and revulsion, is ordinary beings' dhyāna; cultivating through awakening to the partial truth of the emptiness of self is Hīnayāna dhyāna; cultivating through awakening to the true principle revealed by the two emptinesses of self and phenomena is Mahāyāna dhyāna; and if one suddenly awakens to one's own mind as originally pure, fundamentally without afflictions, inherently complete with the nature of uncontaminated wisdom, and that this mind is itself Buddha without any difference, cultivating in reliance on this is supreme vehicle dhyāna, also called the Tathāgata's pure dhyāna, also called the single-practice samādhi, also called the tathatā-samādhi. This is the root of all samādhis; if one can cultivate it thought after thought, one will naturally and gradually attain immeasurable hundreds of thousands of samādhis.
