4.170

為離二種過故初地須加，為得二種利故十地須加。忘失菩提心修諸善根，是為魔業。等如《華嚴》、《大集》中所明。

Empowerment must be given in the first ground in order to abandon the two kinds of faults; empowerment must be given in the tenth ground in order to attain the two kinds of benefits. Forgetting the bodhicitta while cultivating roots of goodness is indeed the work of Māra. This is as explained in texts such as the Avataṃsaka and the Mahāsaṃnipāta.
