因上言諸佛說法，以諦緣起滅道解脫而為其首，非與外道性勝自在宿作自然時微塵等而共相，故大慧舉上佛自說緣起請問世尊。如佛說緣起是由作起，非心自體起，外道亦說勝自在天等而生諸法。今佛但以異名說作緣起，非別有義耳！

Because it was stated above that the Buddhas preach the Dharma with the truths, conditioned arising, cessation, path, and liberation as foremost, and that it does not share characteristics with the non-Buddhist notions of primordial nature, the supreme sovereign, past deeds, spontaneity, time, subtle atoms, and the like, Mahāmati brings forward the Buddha's own previous exposition of conditioned arising to question the World-Honoured One. If the conditioned arising spoken of by the Buddha arises through an act [of creation] and does not arise from the nature of mind itself, the non-Buddhists also speak of the supreme sovereign deity and so forth generating all phenomena. Now the Buddha merely speaks of conditioned arising by way of a different name; there is no difference in meaning!
