言如來說十二緣中無明無因,非是有因。又說無明有故行有,行有故識有,非漸次相待,其義不成。復難如來說緣起不如外道,故言外道說勝,非同如來。

This means that when the Tathāgata speaks of ignorance among the twelve links, it is without a cause, not possessing a cause. Furthermore, he says that because ignorance exists, volitional formations exist, and because volitional formations exist, consciousness exists; these are not gradual and mutually dependent, so the meaning is not established. He further challenges that the Tathāgata's exposition of conditioned arising is inferior to that of the non-Buddhists; hence he says the non-Buddhist assertion is superior, unlike the Tathāgata's.
