Language
Classical Chinese

4.194

This explains that language is merely a provisional establishment. Seeing that ordinary foolish people are ignorant like insects and ants, he devised language to distinguish the characteristics of phenomena. Therefore the preceding sūtra says: 'Whatever language there is, it all arises from the desires and views of foolish people.' It also says: 'Minute insects do not yet have language, yet they each manage their affairs.'
