如依瓶盆事,立瓶盆名,謂一名二名多名能詮自性,名曰名身。言句身等者,即因名成句,因句顯義,如銅、鐵等瓶,句義各異,謂一句二句多句能詮差別,名曰句身。由於此文能成名句,謂一字二字多字為二所依,名曰文身。若依古譯翻文為味,但是所顯非能顯也。身者多法積聚義。
[The commentary says:] Just as based on the object of a jar or a bowl, one establishes the name 'jar' or 'bowl'—meaning one name, two names, or many names that can express intrinsic nature—this is called a collection of names. Speaking of a collection of phrases and so forth: names form phrases, and phrases reveal meaning, as in 'copper jar', 'iron jar', and so forth, where the meaning of the phrases is distinct; meaning one phrase, two phrases, or many phrases that can express distinctions—this is called a collection of phrases. Because through these syllables one can form names and phrases—meaning one syllable, two syllables, or many syllables acting as the basis for the two—this is called a collection of syllables. If following the old translation where 'syllable' (vyañjana) was rendered as 'flavour' (pada/rasa), that was merely what is revealed, not that which reveals. 'Collection' (kāya) has the meaning of an accumulation of many elements.
