This states that the incantation and the various objects are free from being identical or different. If the various objects were different from the incantation, the incantation could not serve as the cause for the various objects. If one says that the various objects and the incantation are identical, there would be no distinction between the incantation and the various objects. Yet we see a distinction between the incantation and the various objects; therefore they are free from being different or non-different. Hence he tells Mahāmati and the bodhisattvas that, just as various objects are produced relying on illusory arts, being free from identity and difference, existence and non-existence, one must not falsely construct attachments to them.
