This means that this noble knowledge of self-realization is beyond words and speech. What was known by the former sages was taught out of compassion to sentient beings and transmitted successively, stating that all phenomena lack intrinsic nature, and that parikalpa and vikalpa alone are the affliction. By relying on the noble teachings without false discrimination, one personally realizes and enters it. However, although this parikalpa originally has no substance, through beginningless habituation it has become nature; one must rely on quiet conditions to illuminate and awaken by oneself, not awakening through another. Free from the view of parikalpa, one can gradually advance into the stage of a Buddha. Practicing in this way is therefore called the characteristic of the noble knowledge of self-realization.
