The latent seeds of all afflictions follow sentient beings, lying dormant in the storehouse consciousness; therefore the dormant afflictions are called enemies. Clarifying the arhat: subtle active predispositions do not manifest, just as when a rat bites a person, though the wound heals, it flares up slightly upon encountering thunder. This serves as an analogy that although the arhat's predispositions do not manifest, they flare up slightly upon encountering conditions. Utterly severing these subtle predispositions is called killing an arhat.
