因上識了境界則名為佛，非真佛故，須以三解脫無漏智斷之。上佛不真須斷，更說何等而為真佛？故有佛之體性以請問也。

Because above, the consciousness that clearly perceives sense objects was called 'Buddha'—which is not the true Buddha—it must be severed through the uncontaminated wisdom of the three liberations. Since the Buddha mentioned above was not the true one and had to be severed, what further can be spoken of as the true Buddha? Therefore, he asks about the essential nature of the Buddhas.
