如來因上菩薩當善語義相，欲明知語者是識，知義者是智，故次□智識相也。
Because above [it was taught that] bodhisattvas ought to be skilled in the characteristics of words and meaning, the Tathāgata wishes to explain that knowing words is consciousness, while knowing meaning is wisdom; therefore next he [clarifies] the characteristics of wisdom and consciousness.
