如來上酬大慧所問，先以法說，次引喻明，此又以法而與喻合。言阿僧祇者，此云無數，餘文可知。
The Tathāgata, having answered Mahāmati's question above, first explained it in terms of Dharma and next cited analogies to illuminate it; here he again unifies the Dharma with the analogies. 'Asaṃkhyeya' here means 'countless'; the rest of the text can be understood.
