注大乘入楞伽經 7.223

7.223

此末一偈，是牒外道救立生法是先有，要待因緣生，譬如暗中物是先有，要待燈照始得見，故言「鉤鎖現若然」。謂因緣現生法，亦如燈光現暗中物。佛言：「若如此論者，是則離因緣外，別更有生法也。」

This final verse cites the non-Buddhists' attempted defense asserting that produced phenomena pre-exist and must await causes and conditions to arise, just as an object in the dark pre-exists and must await the light of a lamp before it can be seen; hence it says, "If it is manifested like an interlocking chain." That is, causes and conditions manifesting produced phenomena are also like the light of a lamp manifesting an object in the dark. The Buddha said: "If one argues like this, then apart from causes and conditions, there would distinctly be other produced phenomena."
