If there were no name of the storehouse consciousness, there would not be the two kinds of arising and ceasing—fragmented [birth and death] and inconceivable transformation [birth and death]—of ordinary beings and sages. Although true practitioners see their own reality-limit and abide in the samādhi of pleasant dwelling in the present life, they do not abandon expedient means in advancing toward the Buddha stage; this is called the arising and ceasing of the sages.
