8.131

施設眾多名字，顯示差別種種諸相。謂有象馬等名生，即有象馬等相起也。此事如是者，顯示自相也；決定不異者，顯示共相也。計有此等名相，是故名為妄想分別。

Provisionally establishing numerous names reveals various different forms. That is to say, when names such as elephant, horse, and so forth arise, the forms of elephant, horse, and so forth thereupon arise. That "such an affair is thus" reveals the particular characteristic; that it is "definitively not different" reveals the common characteristic. Clinging to the existence of these names and forms is therefore called false-conceptual discrimination.
