大慧因上〈現證品〉偈言「此是去來今，諸佛之所說。」又因上言「其身清淨，離心意識。」既離心識，即不可為譬，故舉餘經言「三世諸佛如恒河沙。」故問：為如說而受？為別有餘義？

Mahāmati relies on the verse in the preceding "Chapter on Direct Realization" which says, "This is what the Buddhas of past, future, and present have spoken." He also relies on the previous statement, "Their bodies are pure, free from mind, intellect, and consciousness." Since it is free from mind and consciousness, it cannot be exemplified; therefore he cites another sūtra saying, "The Buddhas of the three periods of time are like the sands of the Gaṅgā." Thus he asks: Should it be accepted as stated, or does it have another meaning?
