8.31

七牒釋破第四無常。計色質變異名無常，非大種體名無常也。故舉金作嚴具喻之，嚴具有變異名無常，而金無改非無常也。此色法體變異無常亦如是。

The seventh [section] cites and explains the refutation of the fourth [kind of] impermanence. They posit that the variation of the physical matter of form is called impermanence, whereas the substance of the primary elements is not called impermanence. Thus they cite the analogy of gold being made into ornaments: the ornaments vary and are termed impermanent, yet the gold does not change and is not impermanent. The impermanence of the transformation of the substance of form phenomena is also like this.
