This further refutes a subsequent misconception. If one says that the Tathāgata is permanent like space, then he would not depend on the causes cultivated by self-realized knowledge to be accomplished, for space, being free from the extremities of the four tetralemmas, can be used as a metaphor for the Tathāgata. Moreover, if one says that the Tathāgata is permanent because he is unarisen, then he would be like the horns of a hare or horse, which are originally unarisen. If one asserts permanence by equating him with space or the horns of a hare or horse, then there would be no meaning of great expedient means benefiting sentient beings; therefore, he is not the same.
