注大乘入楞伽經 8.94

8.94

因上如來非以心意意識、蘊界處法，妄習得名。又佛常說，諸法無我，故問「唯願為我說蘊界處生滅之相。」彼陰界入中，既無有我，誰生誰滅？而諸凡愚依於生滅，不覺苦盡，不證涅槃無生滅法。若無有我，誰知苦盡？誰證涅槃耶？

Following from the above point that the Tathāgata is not named after the false habituation to citta, manas, and manovijñāna, nor to the phenomena of the skandhas, dhātus, and āyatanas; and furthermore, the Buddha constantly teaches that all phenomena are without self, he therefore asks: "I only pray you will explain for me the characteristics of the arising and ceasing of the skandhas, dhātus, and āyatanas." Since there is no self within those skandhas, dhātus, and āyatanas, who arises and who ceases? Ordinary fools rely on arising and ceasing, failing to perceive the exhaustion of suffering and failing to realize nirvāṇa, the unarisen and unceasing Dharma. If there is no self, who knows the exhaustion of suffering? Who realizes nirvāṇa?
