Heedlessness (pramāda) is one of the secondary afflictions (upakleśa). In drinking liquor and eating meat, the mind is largely heedless, and all evil thoughts and coarse examinations (vitarka-vicāra) and so forth grow in succession accordingly. Therefore one revolves in saṃsāra and cannot abandon it.
