9.144

愚夫所見隨妄緣故，謂有生滅，故《圓覺》云「一切眾生於無生中，妄見生滅。」如實觀者，了妄即真，故不生不滅。故前經云「即說此妄名為真如」也。

What foolish common people see accords with false conditions; hence they say that there is arising and ceasing. Thus the *Sūtra of Complete Enlightenment* says: “All sentient beings falsely perceive arising and ceasing within the non-arisen.” Those who contemplate in accordance with reality comprehend that the false is none other than the true; hence there is neither arising nor ceasing. Therefore, an earlier sūtra states: “This very delusion is called tathatā.”
