Having already cultivated and studied the five dharmas and the trisvabhāva, one should further observe the characteristics of the dvi-nairātmya of person and phenomena. As for pudgala-nairātmya: the Sanskrit is pudgala, translated here as 'frequently taking destinies'. This means that sentient beings give rise to afflictions and create karma, which is the ability to take up the five future destinies, termed 'destinies'. Although they repeatedly give rise to afflictions and create karma, revolving in the five destinies, there is entirely no master or real sovereign agent; hence it is called 'no-self'. The sūtra says: 'There is no self, no maker, and no experiencer, yet wholesome and unwholesome karma are not destroyed.'
